I am a nomadic visual artist currently living between Connecticut and New York.
My work uses the human figure, animals, objects, fleshy beings, hypothetical landscapes, Line, and a subtly activated painted surface metaphorically to depict human experience, contradiction, the marriage of natural and artificial, nostalgia, vulnerability, the passage of time, rhythm, memory and the sensation of being visually. The work is as much an interpretation as it is a composition. I am interested in the esemplastic quality of Drawing and Painting, as well as the perceptual rivalry that occurs with the layering of paint over image, drawing over paint, etc. This layering requires the viewer to become physically closer with the work, creating an intimacy that is the experience of visual communication.
My current work is focused mostly on suburban sprawl (or rather sprawl in general) and its effect on space, both mentally and physically, and nature, both human and animal. As well as a concentration on the "home" and its intrinsic connection to the human condition.
I am currently applying to Graduate Schools and building a new body of work that departs farther from traditional painting to also contructing the environment in which the work is installed...
